Summary
Initially, the author disliked NHS due to matters like carparks miles away from the hospital. He blamed all these things on the system.
After returning to UK after graduating from USA, he realized that these matters are just a result of bad management and attitude issues, and can be seen in every healthcare system in the world. All of them have nothing to do with the system of NHS.
The system was in fact very efficient, covering everyone and allowing them to have theirown choice as to what treatments they want to receive. They were also given quality treatment without paying a cent. In addition, the NHS can been constantly and gradually improving the quality of its service. As a result, patients are provided with a wider range of healthcare services for them to make their decisions.

Conclusion
It is true that “far too many…are beginning to believe utterly ridiculous things about the NHS”, since people saw the poor management of NHS and bad attitudes of their employers. Regardless, if people look at it in a positive point of view, they might be able to appreciate their local healthcare more.
Relating to the issue, this is able to benefit people in many ways.
The utmost best, yet fair treatment to all prevents discrimination. Everyone in Britain is seen as an equal and is accorded the best possible service. Whether rich or poor, NHS doctors provide unbiased treatment to all and ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of the patient. Furthermore, the costless treatment allows even the poor to visit doctors and hence ensures that though they are unable to afford the services rendered to them, they are not deprived of receiving adequate healthcare.
Though the service provided by NHS is free, the doctors give advice and prescriptions regardless of how expensive the cost of the treatment is. This goes to show that the NHS puts the patient first, and do not make decisions based on how much it would cost to treat the patients.
